Does anyone else find these -- specially the third picture -- horrifying? This is an ebay listing on US ebay...with a link to these pictures for more detail. One wrong move and....gone!!!

The risk that some people will take is amazing!!!

That's gutsy or stupid and I'm leaning toward the latter.

to wax philosophically:

We can't control how other's decide to make a buck, but possibly a couple outcomes from recent Ebay sales.

Someone purchases a now stripped, 71-73 Super Corsa Frame---now faced with the difficulty and/or expense of trying to find components to restore-refurbish (if that is their intent)----Granted the frame & finish may have made the complete package less sellable---and after all, the winning bidder knows exactly what they are purchasing.

Someone has the opportunity to purchase some much needed Early '70's vintage Campagnolo component (s) (French threading) for a restoration project they may be working on.

Coincidence that the above items become available at the same time.

Depends on how you feel, something gained, something lost.

This happens all too often. I guess because of our collective attachment to the Gitane brand, and especially because this incident involves a Super Corsa that this one struck a nerve.

Parting out certainly brings more dollars, but seems like more of a loss Crying or Very sad from this forum members viewpoint.

I hope that the frame was purchased by a Forum Member or a Gitane (or vintage cyle) enthusiast. I hope that it will find a way to be restored to it's original splendor Very Happy .

I Like Steel !!!!

The frame you show went to Singapore. Likely someone with the funds to do it justice with a proper restore...hopefully???

Lord knows how many of these early Super Corsas have been striped for their VERY desirable, expensive, early Campy components to be used on more thought of Head Badged cycles.

If ya got one...cherish it...they are disappearing.

Jay

I checked out the buyer's purchase history: lots of derailleurs, freewheels and cassettes. At least it's not going to become a fixie! Wink

On a separate note parting out a classic bike is a lot like when an antique car gets parted out at a junk yard!

I've had some business dealings (selling not buying) lately with a company that deals with both sides of the equation. They build VERY expensive hotrods plus they also do concurs de elegance restorations on antique cars. They had a multi million dollar 1930s Bugatti coupe in for a paint touch up last week:
