I bought this gitane out of the local paper and as you can see it could do with a bit tlc. Hoping you guys could offer some info on it. Vitus gti tubing (triple butted) campagnolo chromed dropouts. A really nice frameset! Hoping to get it restored ready for the summer months. That is an early 1990's Gitane, in the team RMO colors. Here is a picture of the "Team" Frame at the time (1992): Nice bike! Hope you check out more of the site and become a regular contributor. I found it quite difficult to find any images of this era frame so if anyone has any please post them up. Just carefully remove the excess rust first. Remember, your doing a camouflage job not a repaint. A good touch-up job should not be noticeable from 5 feet. Quite light for lugged steel but fairly heavy by todays aluminium/carbon standards, excellent ride nonetheless , comfortable but precise handling and durable. It was bought used, frame only, off a clubmate so I don't know how they were originally marketed or model name, any ideas? Enquiries to Machecoul in France were not replied to. I have not made any attempt to retro spec it but by default most of the components are mid 90's. Can't add much more information than previously posted, Frame No. R7959 A 17K (whatever that means?) circa 1992, RMO team colours, Vitus Gti tubing, campagnolo dropouts, 26.8mm seatpost diameter, English thread BB. The black areas of paint can be restored quite easily however the 'white' is a pearlescent metallic which is very difficult to match outside of a professional respray whereupon the transfers/decals would become a problem. I managed a passable DIY spraycan retouch by a combination of off-white over silver metallic finished with a pearl sheen lacquer. The dropouts and chain side of the rear triangle are chromed, I discovered that the front forks are also chromed under the black paint to about half way up, so this is now exposed on my 'custom' version. best wishes kev   Posted: Mon Jan 05, 2009 2:47 pm pistol13 Joined: 18 Dec 2008 Posts: 7 whoa! Would sure help with my resto when i get some cash together. I still have a pair of those, from back in the day when we all wanted 180mm cranks for our TT bikes, and that was the only 180 we could get here in Oz.
