So, now you are thinking, "What the hay?"
So what does this have to do with vintage gitanes? Well, it might be a bit of a long winded story, but please read on...........
I just returned from a few days break in Melbourne where I visited an old racing buddy of mine, Beau. Beau is now the distributer of Assos clothing in Australia. He also happens to be a bit of a fan of bikes, teams, and racing from the 80's. If you remember, the Systeme U team used Assos clothing at that time and Assos still has some great shots of the boys under copyright. Unfortunately, that means that we can't access the prints, but I'm going to ask Beau if he would send me some photos of his Assos store....... (with the posters in the background, of course).
Beau is also a collector of bikes from that era, and while he doesn't have a gitane yet, the Delta is very close to the top of his list of bikes to acquire. Sound like anyone else we know? For those who are interested:
This is some of what I saw:
Vitus funny bike, fully kitted out with the Mavic groupset & front & rear Mavic comete disc wheels.
Beautiful Gios funny bike, Campy C-Record, Campy discs.
Huffy funny bike (the real thing - It was Dag Otto Lauritzen's) Discjet rear disc, Dura Ace 7 speed group. Awesome!
One of Andy Hampsten's Motorola Eddy Merckx road bikes.
An F.Moser Cahteau D'Ax, (possibly Bugno's)
And the list goes on. Beau is going to send me some pics of his bikes, so if anyone is interested in seeing them, please send me a PM. Don, you'd love the Vitus, it is pristine! |
