Hello all, I have an old ? Gitane 10 sp. I would like to know more about. I don't know bicycles, but poking around the site I concluded it is somewhat old because of the ''flower in the vase'' decals on the upper fork. Has MAFAK''racer''brakes, Simplex shifting parts, DIA-COMPE bar levers, PIVO on the bar stem, BCM on the lower neck, and 27'' quick release wheels. The seat has probably been replaced by something newer. It's copper colored, seems original and has a nicely used, well kept patina. Does this sound familiar to anyone? If someone could let me know approximately when it was born, I would surely appreciate it. And also, as I have a spinal fusion on the horizon, it may be for sale...so if someone could give me a ballpark value? $25-50, is it worth $100? I'm reasonable, just don't like gettin' hosed or swindled. And I'm on Long Island, NY, Thank you in advance |

Unfortunately, I cannot pinpoint what you have by the description. Are there any decals on the bike? What do they look like? Really a picture would be the best.
And you won't get "swindled" by this crew! |

On a Gitane google site, someone was selling 3 styles of repro decals, the earliest being ''vintage'' and that's what's on my bike. It appears to have all the proper original decals intact so I was thinking '60s-70s. I'll work on the pics. Thank you.

That is a c1975 Gitane "Ladies Gran Sport DeLuxe". Here is a picture of the bike as it appeared in the catalogue:

I think you are right about your estimate regarding the bike's value (anywhere from $40 to $100, depending on the break, but more in the $50 range). It isn't a particularly collectible bike, but certainly would make a fine commuter for someone (i.e. a student). |
