I picked up what is suspected to be a Gitane Team Pro the other day. Seat tube has a sticker (in French) stating Reynolds 531 tubing, it's got Campagnolo dropout both front and rear and a Cinelli BB shell. The stamp on the BB shell has:
SCA 00
86 NN
Would this have French or English threading- BB is rough and will need replacing...
EDIT- almost forgot- it has the hanger for a race number and the rear brake cable routes through the top tube. |

tjchad,
Welcome to the site.
Your frame could well be what you say it is from what you have said, and what other members have highlighted in the past, for a model of this type. I'm not a marque expert but your info. does sound as though it could be a team frame.
However, the all important addition is a photo. Please could you post one, or many for detail, for us all to check out.
Thank you.

Would most probably be English threading. Just about all Gitanes starting in the mid-1980's (like 1983) were English/standard threaded. However, we have found that blanket statements regarding Gitane specs are dangerous to make! |

There are a lot of oddities on that bike. First, the color. I am not aware of any Gitane Team Pro ever being painted red. Also, the placement of the Reynolds decal is odd, because they were usually on the down tube, not the seat tube.
Now just because I haven't seen it doesn't mean it doesn't exist: Gitane is infamous for changing things up just when you think you see a pattern. I am just curious about the red color, which was used on the "R.S." frames, but not with those dropouts, lugs, and cable guides....
Can you post pictures of the fork ends (dropouts) from the front and side view? Also, a picture of the entire frame would be good. Are there any other decals present? |

I am 99% sure that this is english threaded. What size is the frame? And where did you get it? |

Is it fixed gear? Looks like just one cog in back. Better watch out when Chas sees it!
Probably too new to be French thread. Just take off the non-drive side first, because it is always a right hand thread. Then you can try the cup in other frames, or other cups in this frame, to be sure which it is. |

The BB is English Threaded 1.37" x 24F....
Left hand threads on the fixed cup.
I agree about the red color. I've seen that head badge somewhere before...
Chas.
Warning, the fixie rescue squad is coming! |

tjchad,
Thanks for the photos. It's interesting to read Stephan's comment about the colour. The frame itself certainly has the identifying details of quality, as has been highlighted.
The number '86' on the bottom bracket shell looks to indicate the year of manufacture.

Thanks guys! The "fixie squad" need not come! I have the flip/flop on there as I only have one set of ... well, everything you need to not be fixed. I've just finished rebuilding my Performance Vitesse up with a VERY MUCH appreciated DONATED Ultegra set of components and really do not want to start tearing it all back off to put on the Gitane.
So- the Gitane will be fixed for at least a while so I can ride it. Don't worry- nothing will get hacked off of the frame- that would be sacrelige! |

Thanks Chad for the front headmast decal view. I was wondering if something was missing from my '87 Victoire ---different color scheme but same decal.
As others have stated, the red paint scheme is different but the race # hanger, brake cable routing and chrome R stay & chain hanger certainly are items that would suggest a Team Pro badge.
Nice frame this should be a fun project and a great ride.
I Like Steel !!!

Still working on getting more pics for you- I'll get the rest of the decals and the forks/fork ends.
I got the frame from a local guy here in San Diego. Both the seat tube and top tubes are 55 cm. |

Stephan,
Have you been two-timing us? Is there something we should know? You better get a good lawyer, you're going to need her! |
